State Bank of Pakistan to Issue Bhutto Commemorative 10-Rupee Coin

KARACHI: The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday announced issuance of Rupees 10 denomination coins carrying picture of late prime minister Benazir Bhutto in commemoration of her services.
The Dukhtar-e-Mashriq Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto commemorative coin will be issued on the eve of her death anniversary falling on December 27, the SBP said in a handout.

“All field offices of SBP BSC (Bank) will start issuing Rs10 Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto (Shaheed) commemorative coin through their exchange counters from December 26,” it said.
It also said that existing Rupees 10 banknote would continue to be legal tender and remain in circulation along with the coin of same denomination.
“Commemorative coins or banknotes are normally not for circulation,” said a banking industry official. “They are legal tender but are mostly picked up by collectors.”
In the past, such commemorative coins had also been issued to remember national poet Allama Iqbal and Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah.
