Parody of Democracy: Campaign against Offensive Emails & SMS Against Government Launched by Rehman Malik

I just came through this story and would instantly wanted to share it with everyone I can. Lets first just read the exact reported content.

A country-wide campaign has been launched against emails and text messages containing offensive and fabricated stories against the civilian leadership.
Sources told Geo News, decision has been taken to initiate an immediate action against the banned outfits engaging propaganda against the security forces through Internet.
Directive has been issued to DG FIA for taking to task the elements involved in the crime under Cyber Crimes Act.
Interpol has also been formally requested to track such emails and web sites developed outside the country. Help will be sought from the international police for deportation of the people involved in the crime, sources said.
Those proved guilty of committing these crimes will be punished with 14 years imprisonment and/ or confiscation of the property.

What I think?
I think its again the same tactics they are trying to use with new improved zeal and aggression to curb the agitation of intellectuals specially youth, which having increased impact on masses. This will eventually lead to the sanctions against Media.
Reverse Approach, Lesson learned!
Interesting point to be noted here, that unlike Musharaf regime, who started to curb media initially when justice movement, but as a reaction people shifted to other medium i.e. emails, sms, blogs social network sharing etc. I even amazed at that time many people having limited understanding of internet, got DSL installed just because they wanted to stream GEO and other Channels to be updated about current scenario.
I think, Zardari regime quite intelligently realised this fact, and they started with this approach. Seriousness regarding this can be guessed through in involvement of Interpol in this matter FORMALLY. According to the story above, even the “culprit” resides outside the country, the will get him/her deported back by the help of international Law enforcement agencies.
Conflicting Priorities
Pakistan is passing through an important phase of history, where we have been fighting war with in country. Almost everyday we face bomb blasts, suicide attacks, targeted killing etc. Naturally, no matter how much incapable any home ministry could be, there main priority would be to focus on these issues, in all aspects.
But look here, what an irony of fate this nation has, our interior Ministry is fighting against the TERRORISTS spreading jokes against government mainly that means Mr. ZARDARI.
This Government has history from its start to open unecessary pandorox box against itself. Starting from the issue of judiciary, then 17th amendment, Governor Rule in Punjab, and now again confrontation with Judiciary on the matter of Carbon Tax or Fuel Taxes.
What We Need To DO?
First priority must to be spread this news, as much possible as we can. We must express our concerns through any medium we could have done. We must write blogs, share and protest on social media every where to stop this before it gets full blossom. We already had Mr. Rehman Malik Quoting the possibility of BAN against SMS. They tried other tactics, like imposing tax on SMS to stop spreading the anti-government sentiments. That was by the grace of God reverted due to the strong repulsion from all the section of society.
Secondly, everyone should be taken on board specially media, politicians and civil society leaders. Specially electronic media should oppose this strongly, because this will lead to the sanctions against them as well in later stages. Someone among these must as well take up this to the corridors of justice, by mean of petition or suo moto action by higher judiciary.
Thirdly, Sense must be prevailed in some better people in power, that in this era of technology, flow of information can’t be stopped by any mean. This will not serve any purpose bus escalated the heat of agitation against them.
Finally, I myself fully oppose this decision. Its totally injustice. Its just reflection the criminal intentions of people in power. So on so, they have bracketed this with the terrorist sections i.e., propagating banned organizations’ material etc. But as a matter of fact, this is just another form of Dictatorship or we can say it as PARODY OF DEMOCRACY.

Mr. Waqas you are talking about that channel which was the leading one to claim about the nationality of Ajmal Qasab. was that act for country?? You and every one know that India was already blaming that Ajmal Qasab was Pakistani, If Geo couldn’t support the Govt. than it should also had not to support India’s stance. It not only supported India’s stance but helped India in finding his residence and families, without knowing the consequences that Govt will face at international level. This channel, I will say that it is working on some foreign agenda to destabilize Pakistan not at national level but also at international level. Geo always raised those issues which could destabilize the Govt. There are several other news channels in Pakistan, why they didn’t raise the issue of Ajmal Kasab at first. If you watch the programs of Geo channel, the main theme behind them is just to criticize any Govt of Pakistan. If I would have some authorities, than I would suggest banning all channels of Geo. And present Govt has given freedom of expression to every one. Geo should be thankful to present Govt for not halting its transmissions. PPP Govt didn’t try to curb media and about sms restriction I will say that it’s a right step because people are writing only abuses and foul language against leadership instead of giving suggestions or criticizing Govt.
Ok, Lets go one by one;
1) Well first of all in this Post I have nothing to do with GEO, they just aired news, same as other channels did.
2) Regarding topic of ajmal Kassab,we can see the proceedings, how Security advisor to PM, The right hand of president behaved, its far more than this. So what would you consider him too working on their agenda. And what about Zardari’s statement about india that they are not threat to Pakistan. So he also happened to be working on their agenda. You can say that they have showed iresponsibility but cant label someone like this.
3) Jang group were one of the pionior of media in Pakistan, so lets not go into this type of concpiracy theories.
4) Regarding your support to the decision, well its the part of I think every culture of having slogans about leaders. You can review history of US. People making fun of leaders cartoons and other stuff. I remember my childhood when we use to have slogans like “Gali gali mein chaqu hey nawaz sharif daku hey” etc. Its just that now ways of communication have changed.
5) Having said that its already the law that if i tease you by sending content you dnt wanna receive, you can complain against me. But what about sharing jokes could lead to the sentence of 14 year?
6) I am sure you have not seen the text of law, it gives almost open end to the agencies to put anyone behind bar with their own definition of “In-appropriate” content.
7) I have many friends in media, and have credible news about how Mr. Zardari directly influence owners like express, aaj etc. Even trying to dictate which of his pictures to air on media which not. He is behaving worse than Musharaf.
9) Government should think, why the jokes are not spread about Chief Minister of Punjab, or people in NWFP etc.
10) If you are PPPP supporter, I respect you feeling, but I think Mr. Zardari has done damage to the party more than even establishment could have done. What a pity that instead of eliminating corruption from you regime, you just try to stop people from talking.

It is an old malicious tactic to curb the public opinion.I am wondering that what if public comes on the street to protetst against this non-democratic act of Government, Whould America give the same coverage like Iran(recently) on media to shun the attrocities(i strongly believe that this puppeteer gov will leave no chance to use force against the protesters) of this so called democratically elected government???????????????? That will be the real trial of western media if it happens so. The flag holders of the truth might have to hide their ugly faces somewhere in the holes.
Throughout their 62 years of existence, Pakistanis have faced mostly turmoil and pain. They are a nation who have learned to ease the pain by laughing at it, at their leaders and at themselves. By taking away this emotional outlet the “civil democracy” is doing two things:
1. Showing their absolute INSECURITY about themselves
2. driving the Pakistani people insane with all that frustration and nowhere to channel it.
No worries, I have requested some influential friends to kindly raise it up and loud so for the CJP to lend an ear to it. Sir Ahsan Iqbal at PMLN, Khwaja Asif and Khwaja Saad Rafiq would soon either challenge it directly or through a firm lance!
Enough of the peeping Big-Brothers!
PMLN has starting to act quite fishy role. Missing Persons? A.Q.Khan Issue? Laal Mosque ? They even let the budget passed without any cut motions on major blunders
I don’t know about the budget but for all these three issues, petition and appeals have long been submitted and would soon be entertained as SCP has already listed the scheduled hearing for year 2009, which also includes NRO
1. Geo is the channel of Jang group that uses issues for negative propaganda. It creates chaos among people. What is the meant of showing beheaded people, scattered body organs. No other T.V channel shows such things. On the other hand it is promoting vulgarity. Sorry to say that a dignified person can not see geo dramas and shows sitting with his family. It gives live shows from India shows that it is funded by India.
• I think you are not aware of GEO…its being funded by USA govt and India……just think what Jews /Indian/ American lobby want ……… the basic idea is to promote frustration, and despondence in a nation, so they start to demoralize and the future can be mapped as they want to project it in the minds of 50 percent illiterate population.. ..That are born Muslim, can’t read, but can see.
• Why on earth USA is concern with only GEO, why CNN, BBC and bush quote GEO? Why not other TV channels in china, Japan, Cuba, India, Saudi Arabia, France? Why only Pakistan???? ??
• Why geo showed peoples’ bodies without head, only finger parts, people dying after bomb blast? Does any other channel show these things?
• Just think…… in India more than 2000 Muslims were killed in Gujarat in three months!!!! Did you see any 36 hours live coverage of these killings? Has any one seen this on ZEE or star or Sony etc… any Indian channel????
• Babri Masjid was destroyed by Hindus…. any live coverage???? Nuns in Tamil nado of India were burnt alive in a church and for next 6 hours the church kept burning. Did any Indian channel or CNN or BBC show that???? In France, 700 cars were burnt in one day… yet no coverage.
• There were 89 separatist movements in India in 2007 …from Bihar to Kashmir Assam etc… Did you see on any Indian channel showing 250 million people sleeping on footpath???? ?
• Zee India never showed killing of Kashmiris and the attack on GOLDEN TEMPLE, killing of Sikhs on Indian soil
• How many Israeli channels show killing by Israeli soldiers, when they kill Palestinians? ????
• Have you ever seen Indian president or politician being verbally abused on TV channels during live coverage????
• There have been reported 30,000 rape cases in USA… do you see on TV???? But you see Mukhtaran maee on geo/cnn/bbc
WHO is GEO????
Just think… they telecasted false news about emergency and hence the stock market crashed in Pakistan…
• Do you know Kamran Khan was getting RS 25 lakh per month?
• Do you know Dr. Shahid masood, was a member of NSF student party (a political left wing student party against Pakistan and Islamic forces…. with RS 22 lacs per month and home in dubai and Karachi
• Same amount been paid to Hamid Mir editor “Ausaf”……even Nadia Khan with Rs 6 lacs per month… Such huge amount, just to for free????

• 50 percent Indian dramas on geo and 25 percent with mix cast (Indian and Pakistani) and Indian films.
2. Advisor to PM or president behaved responsibly and every thing happened after geo news that Ajamal Qasab belongs to Pakistan. My dear once again review this event how Geo on aired that Qasab is Pakistani and then there was no alternate to refuse that he is not Pakistani.
3. How you will feel if I start your character assassination through SMS. Abuse you. Write vulgar things about you. My dear no one even tolerates even a single abuse and here our people literally abuse leaders and not only leaders but their families also.
My dear there is no such black law that you put any one behind bar without any evidence or proof.
4. Certainly I should laugh that Govt has influence on Media. What a joke, Plz if u have any concrete prove forward me. Our media that never misses a chance to malign or blame Govt, how it can be dictated? This is really a joke.
5.Definitely a person who is a autocrat can not stop people but a Govt that is elected democratically can stop. Cause it has mandate given by masses.
6.Jokes are spread against this democratically Govt because anti democratic forces can not endure democracy in this country. There is a coordinate campaign to malign image of Govt and people like you are used a weapon.
7.I am not supporter of any party my dear but I have common sense and advise you to use it. Mr Zardari strengthen the party, selected a PM that is not his cousin not brother but best person from his party not like other parties. Well I would like to ask who succeeded to eliminate corruption from this society since Pakistan came into being; either it was PML-N, PTI, ANP, JI or MQM? My dear a cancer deeply rooted in the basis of this nation can not be eliminated over nights. It takes long time and I am hopeful that Govt would succeed to take over it.

1) Well all these fundings issue, I think if you don’t have evidence, its nothing to do, talking about it.
2) Regarding the coverage of geo by foreign media, its just because Geo is on of the Largest group and channel. Now Dawn news, express etc are also being reffered. So again lame!
3) Regarding showing beheaded pics, many channels did that, and I saw Geo appologising for than openely officially.Its just matter of mistake and maturity which our media will and is gaining by the time. NO Sensational thing.
4) If other media doesn’t showing violance against their people, like india, israel etc. It doesn’t suggest that we should also stop reporting this. Its the very basic rule to expose injustice. SO if there is anything wrong, People must know that so that it can be reduced.
5) Regarding Sallaries, Whats the point? Its coorporate buisness, and every channel is dependent upon these people, so they retain then with incentives. Again nothing to be proven! We just need to see what they are saying is true or not. Its our right to accept or not, its just opinion making like voting, part of democracy.
6) Regarding emergency news, those were the informed leaks and emergency finally imposed. So basicallay the news proven to be true thats it!
7) Having said that, Media is part of society, so they can be as good as bad as as a individual one could be,and they learn from mistakes. Thats it! NOthign to sensionalise.
9) Secondly, ITs not character assasination, its just frustration peopled have. When they see non-serious attitude from highest officials. You have been aware of New york scandal of Kahira and Gondal and list goes long and long.
10) If this is democratic Govt. what the hell rehman malik and people like shokat tareen doing, They dont have capable pakistanis and politician to run the system.
