An exclusive Al Jazeera survey of public opinion in Pakistan has revealed widespread disenchantment with the United States for interfering with what most people consider internal Pakistani affairs. Gallup Pakistan, an affiliate of the Gallup International polling group, carried out the survey. The field work was done among more than 2,500 men and women across the rural and urban areas of all four provinces of Pakistan on July 26 and 27 this year. The field work was done face to face. The anti-India actions in Kashmir are also not a Pakistani creation. They will continue, fester and invite reaction from Kashmiris and Pakistanis on Pakistani soil unless resolved. The grumbling at the C.I.A. about dealing with Pakistan’s I.S.I (Inter-services Intelligence) comes with a certain grudging reverence for the spy service’s Machiavellian qualities. Some former spies even talk about the Pakistani agency with a mix of awe and professional jealousy. This report was published in July last year. That’s when the worldwide demonization campaign against ISI, launched by the American and the British media on the prodding of CIA and MI6, got underway. It gives an informed American viewpoint on how American spies see ISI. The writer, Mark Mazzetti, has done a good job explaining ISI’s side of the story, yet Pakistani readers need to be aware that the usual Pakistan-averse agenda is implicit at other places in this article. MUMBAI, India — The lone surviving gunman in the Mumbai attacks made a surprise confession at his trial Monday, saying he was recruited by a militant group inside Pakistan after he left a low-paying job and went looking for training to become a professional robber. The confession by Muhammad Ajmal Amir Kasab (also spelled: Muhammad-Ajmal-Amir-Kasab, Azam-Amir-Kasab, Azam-Amer-Kasab, Mohammad-Ajmal-Amir-Kasab, Muhammad-Ajmal-Amer-Kasab, Mohammad-Ajmal-Amer-Kasab, Ajmal-Kasab, Ajmal-Qasab, Ajmal-Qassab,) bolstered India's charges that terrorist groups in neighboring Pakistan were behind the well-planned attack, and that it is not doing enough to clamp down on them.
